The digital playground is evolving rapidly.  Every day brings new, dynamic ways to market your business. The challenge is understanding how to utilize new technologies properly; cool technology means nothing unless you understand how to leverage it as a way to show that you’re more innovative and creative than your competitors.  The biggest marketing mistake a company can make is putting technology in place of a well-thought-out plan or a good process. At the end of the day, technology should used to enhance your company’s process- it shouldn’t be your company’s process and plan.

Standing out in the crowd is a never-ending challenge. The good news? We have a solution and a plan. And it starts with a simple formula: E = mc2. (Just kidding. See the real formula below.)

Frequency (Consistency) + Process (Technology) = Success

They say “looks aren’t everything,” and it’s especially true in advertising. Even if you’ve got a stellar design, the creativity is evident, and the artwork is pretty, what takes campaigns and brands to the next level is how you market. If there’s no marketing plan in place, the pretty designs will remain just that- pretty designs.

On the flip side, we’ve all seen tacky, cringe-inducing ads that make us say to ourselves, “Man, that is ugly. Glad that’s not my brand.” But the truth is, oftentimes those ads are in your face generating more of an impact than some of the best-looking ads. That’s because while they lack the aesthetic, they have a process.

I'm writing this blog to encourage you to reflect on your marketing efforts. Consider for a moment that maybe there’s a better way to reach your customers, to elevate your brand. A company aspiring to grow must remain objective about their marketing, and never adopt a "set it and forget it" mentality. MOJO wants to help you get there.

As a marketing agency, we are often asked: where do I start? How much should we spend? What will work for my company? The answer is different for everyone, but the first step is always to take action. Our job is to help you set a path towards achieving your marketing goals. Developing the right formula for your business requires trial and error. We help you consider internal factors such as the solidity of your message, the impact of your product or service, and the quality of your branding, as well as external factors like the season or the state of the economy that may affect the way you need to market your business; and we use analytics tracking to back it all up.

Critical questions are the first step...

At MOJO, we strongly believe that you need to be able to answer the following questions with 100% confidence:

  • Why are you in business? It’s not “to make money”- there are plenty of easier ways to do that. We want to know what drives you.
  • Why are you different? "Because I believe in customer service", said every business owner before you. Think about what differentiates you from competitors.
  • Who do you want to reach?  You should be able to describe the profile of who your ideal customer is, and it’s okay if that profile changes periodically- for many businesses, that’s a sign of growth.
  • Where do your target customers spend their time?  If you don't know where they are or how they spend their time, you won't know where to hunt.
  • What is the outcome that you are looking for? This is very important. Proper expectations are key. For example: if you’ve just launched a social platform, aiming to reach a Facebook-level amount of users and content within 6 months is likely setting yourself up for disappointment. There is a balance between probability and practicality. Measuring success accurately requires your goals to be realistic as they are ambitious.

The Take Away...

Look at marketing objectively. Know the answers to the above critical questions. Look for a company that will work with you to devise a marketing plan that will allow you to wisely advertise frequently, consistently, and in creative and innovative ways.  Then find a process that works for you, and then when the time is right, implement the appropriate technology to magnify your success.
